You gotta watch this! Pay close attention to the passes the white team makes, see if you can count the correct amounts of passes. Don’t rewind to double check until you’ve watched the whole thing…no cheating!

Taking Pleasure in the Small Things

Here I am sitting in a Chinese restaurant waiting for carryout, updating my blog on my iPhone. Going home to see the family. It’s gonna be a good night.

Songs of the Day

March 30, 2008 2 comments

Today’s songs have some meaning to them. They are encouraging, and to me, moving. The first is a song called “You’re Not Alone” by Saosin. The second is a song by Jars of Clay called “Oh My God”. I am linking to the lyrics so that you can understand they are not taking the Lord’s name in vain. This is what the lead singer of the band has to say about the song.

Good Monsters“Matt [Odmark, Jars guitarist] came to the band with this idea to use the phrase “Oh my God” in a song. It means so many different things and it’s used in so many different contexts, but in the end, it means that at some point in every person’s life, they have to confront whether or not God is real.”

It’s not your typical verse, chorus, verse, chorus song…but it’s cool nonetheless. Enjoy your work week!

NOTE: To keep browsing the site while songs are playing, right click on the song link, and select “Open in New Window”, or “Open in New Tab”. I can’t have the music automatically open in a new window like links to articles and webpages. Just FYI!

Sunday Update

March 30, 2008 1 comment

Church went really well this morning. One of the most powerful new worship songs out there (if done right) is “Mighty To Save”. I love playing drums to that one probably as much as “How Great is Our God”, if not more. The congregation really entered in, and it was awesome. Very moving… Then three married couples shared their testimony, mine included. It was a powerful testament to God’s love and mercy, and how He brought these couples through some tough stuff, to come out of it stronger, and closer to each other and Him as well. It was a reminder that no matter what we go through in our marriage, that if we seek God, and work at it, it will all work out to His glory.

Poor Lael decided to make some egg salad for lunch yesterday out of some hard boiled eggs the kids decorated last week for Easter. She had a rough evening and night, but feels better now. No details, but you can figure it out.Chill Cafe

I’ve been listening the last few days to a new(ish) album called Chill Cafe: Hiding Place. I like electronic music, and chillout lounge music, which is just basically background, easy listening relaxing stuff. This album is remixes of famous worship songs, in a nice, cafe type sound. I’d post a sample, but I got it on Itunes and can’t put those files on the site here. Check it out if you like stuff like this. There are previews on the linked site (amazon). They also have a 2nd cd as well.

And finally, the SURVEY OF THE DAY!!!!!

The color and exclamation marks are supposed to add the illusion of importance to the above statement. I hope that was clear. Anyway, there is an article online that I read today, about something I heard about a year or so ago. The birth control pill…for men. Read here. Now, here is the question, of the guys out there, what do you think about this? Leave a comment pro or con… Here’s my take. If there aren’t any hormonal side effects, and it can get my wife off the pill, and back to “normal”, then write me out a prescription. It’s totally reversible, and according to the article, it’s as effective as a vasectomy. I’m interested in feedback on this.

We Have a Winner

Kyle, I liked your blog title the best.

Sooo, for now (not sure how long we’ll go with it), our blog will be titled in your browser bar as “Nafziggers, Napzingers, Faznipgers…how do you spell that?”

This one really hit home.  We get mail sent with crazy spellings, 25% of people that have known us for years can even really pronounce our last name correctly, and I have to spell it to EVERYONE over the phone.  N as in Nancy, A, F as in Frank, Z as in Zebra, I, G, E, R…  <sigh>

Song(s) of the Day

March 29, 2008 Leave a comment

Well, I upgraded this account to allow for video and music uploading. Hopefully that will enhance the experience of the site, and keep visitors coming back.

Today’s picks start with a song from the French movie Amelie. It’s a piano solo. Those of you that know me realize that I don’t usually listen to this kind of music, however, it’s a really moving and beautiful piece.

For those of you that like things a little harder, here’s a pick from the Christian Rock band Project 86. Called “Evil” it’s the first cut from their newest album “Rival Factions”. Check it out! The video for it is a big food fight in a diner, filmed slo-mo like a war film, awesome…

And finally, the winner of Britain’s version of America’s Got Talent (the British show came first) has an album out. This guy got on stage as a cell phone saleman, looked like an overweight guy with poor teeth, and absolutely knocked the judges and the audience on their feet. Here is his song, “Time to Say Goodbye”. You’ll probably recognize it. Below is also the video of that performance on the show, he sings Nessun Dorma. Simon Cowell is one of the judges, as is Piers from American Inventor. It is absolutely one of the best live performances I’ve ever seen, mostly because of the audience’s reaction.

Home Alone…w/ Kids

March 29, 2008 3 comments

Two things really make themselves apparent when one is a parent (like that play on words?).

Pee and poop

Specifically, how much time we dedicate to each while raising kids.  For example, in the 45 minutes I’ve been up with the kids, we’ve had one little 2 year old that peed through her night diaper and soaked her clothes and her bedsheet. More than likely this was caused by the hurried way a tired father put her diaper on last night. So I deserved that one. She also spent 10 minutes on the potty, unfruitful.  I found out why when I went to put her pull-ups back on.  They were wet, in the 15 minutes since she woke up, she wet them already.

We’ve also had one little 7 month old that pooped so much it was up to his shoulders when I put him on the changing table. Thanks to the modern marvel of laxatives, Mr. Bryce has been pooping like a champion. A champion that has eaten nothing but fiber for days, in enough quantity to bury a herd of Madagascarian Aye-Ayes.

Needless to say, the washing machine is running and I’m feeling like I should take a Clorox shower.

What do you mean, I’m not rich???

March 28, 2008 2 comments

I read another article today about people that can’t make ends meet. It’s interesting though, these people are typically:

  1. Up to their eyeballs in credit card debtMoney
  2. Stuck in a very expensive mortgage, usually interest only or adjustable rate
  3. Living in California, or Florida, where houses our size are 300k or more!
  4. Shocked that all of a sudden they can’t pay their bills when gas goes up 50 cents
  5. Complaining about the government

Please don’t misunderstand me here. I know some people are really hurting, and some people just aren’t making much, and do budget well, so when they lose their jobs, it hits them hard. The people I’m fed up with are those that don’t manage their money well. They spend money on high interest credit cards, they live in giant homes they can’t afford, then they pick STUPID financing programs. I wouldn’t be able to sleep at night if we were leveraged that much on the debt side. I, as a taxpayer, do NOT want to bail these people out. People have to live with the consequences of their actions, and poor choices. The Lord knows I’ve done dumb things and had to pay for it! (Please don’t remind me in the comments…) However, when it comes to your future, and your family’s future, don’t be hasty. I know it’s not easy not having the nicest house, or the 120″ plasma, but live within your means, or get a better job. Or a 2nd job. Or steal.

Mr. Mortgage company. You sold people that can’t afford mortgages a home. You are stuck with the bad debt. Shame on you. DON’T EXPECT A GOVERNMENT BAILOUT.

Problem is, they’ll probably get it.

And now, on a lighter note!! Bryce was constipated (a side effect of now eating real food), so we took him to the Dr. Lael had to buy these little wax plugs that go there. No, not there….THERE. Yeah, down there… They worked, a little too good! Now it’s runny, all the time. He was crying when he was poopin’, cuz it hurt a bit. Not any more! Ahhh, the joys of parenthood.
