My YouTube video

March 26, 2008 1 comment

Well, this is the only video I’ve ever posted on YouTube. We were at the Cleveland Zoo, and well, it’s not everyday this happens in front of a huge crowd of people. Regardless of what the commentary says…I do know what was going on.

Update on Bryce

March 26, 2008 3 comments

For those of you that don’t know, Bryce was born with a congenital heart defect. For months, the doctors told us it was a defect called Tetralogy of Fallot. It was a four pronged problem that would require surgery. Basically, Bryce has a hole in his heart that won’t heal, and along with that issue, there is a possibility of a stenosis (narrowing) of his pulmonary vein, a thickening of the lower chamber of his heart, and his aorta was offset over the hole, causing a pressure problem, and oxygenated and non-oxygenated blood was mixing. Tet babies sometimes turn blue, and have trouble breathing. Eventually, without surgery, they die. Even with surgery, some children need to have valve replacements during their teenage years.

This was a BIG shock. Bryce didn’t, and hasn’t, even look sick. He breathed a little fast as an infant, but with some medication, that issue has gone away. He is thriving, gaining weight, and developmentally he is right on track! With much prayer and hope, our doctor told us in January that it looked as though all he had was a hole in his heart, and NOT full-blown tetralogy. This is HUGE. All that needs to be done is to patch the hole in his heart, so far, there is no talk about the more invasive tet surgery. This is a Godsend!

Right now, he will still be having open heart surgery at the end of April. We will be down in Indianapolis at Riley Hospital for at least 5 days. We’re still praying for a miracle. It would be awesome to get down there, and then not have to go through the incredibly difficult (for us) surgery. Please pray for complete healing! He is our little man, and this will be very hard for Lael and I. It sounds as though this will be the only surgery he will ever have to have, and he won’t be on any restrictions (like no football, etc.).

We just wanted to update everyone to let them know what’s going on.Bryce

Well, here we go…

March 26, 2008 1 comment

A buddy of mine just started a new(ish) blog using this site. Over the years, I’ve used multiple sites, and just haven’t had a good reason to continue with the blogging. Here’s another try. Now that our family has grown, it may be a good way to update everyone on what’s going on with us, and it’s more personal than just uploading pictures to Flickr.

Let me know what you think! More likely than not, there will just be random musings on life, and kids, and being married. But maybe someday I’ll begin to impart wisdom that will just BLOW YOUR MIND!

So keep reading…
