Song of the Day- Violet Hill by Coldplay

April 30, 2008 1 comment

Coldplay has a new album coming out June 16th. This is their free single, Violet Hill. It’s very different than their previous work, I really like it. Apparently, it was produced by Brian Eno, the man behind some of U2s great albums, and an electronic music wizard. The song really doesn’t get going until a bit into it, but when it does, it’s got a great groove.  The lyrics are a bit “eh”, and ambiguous, and Chris’s vocals sound weak and wobbly as usual, but for whatever reason, I just DIG the music.

Quick Update

Bryce has his first post-op appointment tomorrow morning at 9:20 at her pediatrician. We expect everything to go well. His incision is totally bandage free, and is looking very good. He’s still very happy and back to normal.

Brielle had a little playdate tonight! She had some trouble sharing with Kennedy, but we’re working on it. She’s been the center of attention for awhile now, so we’re having to “reteach” sharing. Thanks to Matt and Joanna for dinner, it was awesome!

Brielle also did a #2 twice today, both times in the potty. I can’t say how GREAT that is. She’s not totally potty trained, but this is a big step in the right direction. She’s not asking to go, she still needs to be reminded. Now that she’s in training pants, poo is BAD. The pants don’t have tabs, so you have to pull them off of her legs. That can be difficult, as you can imagine.

Here is a picture of Brielle with the reward of her first poopy today. She was supposed to eat these BEFORE her nap, but managed to take them to bed with her. This was the aftermath.

Oprah is NOT a Christian, Her New “Church” is Very Anti-Christ

April 28, 2008 6 comments

Here is a short video where Oprah says that there are millions of ways to God, not just one through Jesus, and shows what she believes as being very New Age. It’s very disturbing stuff. It isn’t anything I haven’t heard before, but her amount of influence is what makes it worrisome.

Bryce’s Surgery Cost Tally

April 28, 2008 Leave a comment

Some of you may be curious as to what it costs for infant open-heart surgery. I will be keeping a tally on the right side of the website with all the information we get from the hospital on what they are billing insurance. This would be the most accurate measurement of the true costs of the procedure. Check back daily, as we may be getting a LOT of bills in the next few weeks.

Quick Update on Bryce

April 27, 2008 Leave a comment

Bryce rolled over today all the way onto his tummy for the first time since his surgery. He could roll around a room before the operation, but since, when he gets onto his side and his shoulder, he would roll back over. This is a great step toward getting his mobility back to what it was. His bandage strips are starting to come off. Some have fallen off, some have been pulled off by him. His incision looks very good. Pink and clean, not scabby and gross like I thought it would. He’s been back to eating normal again. Baby food, cheerios, rice cereal, and milk. I’m feeling like he’s back to normal, and we haven’t even been home a week.

It was nice to be back to church this morning. Lael and I went, and Joan (Lael’s mom) and Barbara (Lael’s aunt) were kind enough to watch the kids so we wouldn’t expose them to any sick kids. Today should be the last day we have to quarantine the kids anymore. YES! We had to be really careful with them since we found out about Bryce, so it’s very freeing to not have to keep them away from other kids now. We had a little family get together tonight at my parent’s home. Brielle LOVED the little swing on the apple tree. She would ask me to push high, pockets off (I needed to take my hands out of my pockets and push her), faster, etc. She is starting to talk a LOT more, and even make short sentences. Like she just said 20 seconds ago to grandma, “No more diaper, no thank you!” Actually, it’s more like , “No more deepa!! No gank you!! ” Ah yes, the joys of bedtime. She’s asking to go “polly” now, she’s learning to stall. How’s this for a real-time play by play! I need to go…Bryce needs his meds.

I decided to look at some old pictures of Brielle and Bryce we have on Flickr.  Here are some older pics.

Adventures in Buying Other People’s Junk

April 26, 2008 Leave a comment

Sooo, everyone left here about 7:30 this morning to go to garage sales.  I didn’t get up until closer to 8, so I got ready and left.  Apparently there are 4 big subdivisions with sales today, so I went to the first one where Lael, the kids, her mom and aunt, my sister and her family, friends of ours and their family were there.  There were people selling food there, sheriffs directing traffic, port-a-pit chicken, and LOTS OF WIND AND COLD TEMPERATURES.  I walked around in a huge loop through the subdivision looking for everyone.  Half an hour later, at least, I found everyone.  They were all within 200 yards of my car, where I had started from.  Not a good start to the day, but I was in good spirits.  I carried Brielle around for awhile, and at one point, I had Brielle on one arm, and Tyler on my other.  It was a great workout.  It wasn’t a wasted trip though.  We found an Eddie Bauer double stroller for a great deal.  At least half of what it would have been new.  So now I’m home, tired, the kids are asleep, and Lael, her mom, and aunt are all at another subdivision, in the cold and windy weather.  It’s like a disease I guess….

New Blog Feature…Allow Me to Explain

April 25, 2008 Leave a comment

WordPress has added a new feature to blogs this evening. At the end of most of my posts, you will find a “possibly related posts” section, if you are viewing just one post, rather than my whole site. The bold links at the top of that section link to posts that I have written. The non-bold links below them link to blogs that are not mine, and that I have no control over. So peruse them at your own risk. This is a great feature for people that may be interested in a certain topic that I may write about a lot, for example, Swedish unicycle speak no evilriders and their addiction to Snicker’s bars. If I have a post about that, then in that new section there may be a link to a post I did a month ago, also relating to Swedish unicycle riders, but their addiction to Ragtime music, rather than Snicker’s bars. You get my drift… If you find that the links are referencing inappropriate sites, PLEASE LET ME KNOW. I have the power to turn this feature off. Here is a picture of a monkey, trying not to be inappropriate. Such things are funny to me late at night. Silly monkey.

It’s That Time of the Year Again

April 25, 2008 1 comment

Two words become the staple of Lael’s vocabulary in the spring. It’s not “spring cleaning”, “baseball games”, or “suntan lotion”. It’s “garage sales”. It’s an obsession, and one that I must admit I have fed. Why do I throw money at Lael to allow her to spend willy-nilly at garage sales? It’s because long term, it’s for the best. Here’s the formula.

Lael buys a shirt at a garage sale for 50 cents. This saves us from buying a new one for 10 dollars. Bryce will wear it five times, then Lael will sell it on ebay for 75 cents, probably in a lot with other boys clothes. So the way I look at it, we’re MAKING money, especially if we figure in what we aren’t spending on new clothes. And that’s why I’m probably going to get up early on a Saturday to go with my family to garage sale. That, and it’s an excuse to not fix the ceiling tiles in the basement that need to be replaced…

Brielle got a weird rash today. We think it may have been a reaction to sunscreen. It’s was cute, she wanted us to scratch her back, and she would just stand there. At one point, she was laying across my lap while I scratched her back for a few minutes. What a cutie, it’s nice to be needed.

Internet, Where Art Thou??

April 24, 2008 Leave a comment

Our Internet has been down here at the house for about nine hours.  Thankfully, I’m using Windows Live Writer right now, which allows me to write offline blog posts, then dump them into WordPress when I am reconnected.  I think Lael has a slight eye twitch now.  She’s going through withdrawal already.  SBC says it’s a South Bend and surrounding issue problem, and should be resolved at 6:30 PM, no wait, 10:30 PM, oh it’s 10:30 PM, no Internet, let me call again….2:30 AM!  It’s been changing.  Who knows, maybe we’ll be out for days.  At least we have a different provider where I work, and I can get on the Internet over my cell phone.  If it wasn’t for email, I could do without the ‘net for a few days.

Bryce is doing great today.  Smiling, sleeping well, and eating well.  You Brycewouldn’t even know that a week ago today he had surgery.  Other than the incision area, and some bandage adhesive that just won’t come off him, he looks like a perfectly normal, albeit uncommonly handsome, baby.  Many a nurse said he was a cute baby, and they should know, they see a lot of them.  They wouldn’t lie to a 7-month old, right?  I mean, c’mon, look at this kid!!
