McCain Picks a Woman as His VP!

August 29, 2008 Leave a comment

In what I consider a brilliant move, Senator John McCain has pegged Alaskan Governor Sarah Palin to be his Veep running mate.  Wow, is this a gesture to the disenfranchised Hillary supporters?

Sarah is quite a bit younger than McCain, also hopefully bringing in a different demographic of voters into the polling booths.  How will the polls react to this?  Not sure.  I see a few issues that may come up.

1)  Alaska.  She’s been involved with Big Oil.  Issue?  Perhaps

2)  She’s a very young Governor.  Inexperienced?  Well, no less than Obama.

3)  She’s relatively unknown.  I didn’t know her…did you?

I think it’s a good ticket.  A woman VP?  Cool…

Political Joke

Senators John McCain, Hillary Clinton, and Barak Obama were in an airplane flying to a debate.

John McCain decided to break the tension.  “You know what?  I could drop a 1,000 dollar bill out of this plane and make one person very happy.”

Hillary Clinton, not to be one upped by John, spoke next.  “Well, I could drop ten 100 dollar bills and make ten people very happy!”

Obama, smug as ever, piped up.  “That’s nothing!  I could drop one thousand 1 dollar bills out the window and make 1,000 people happy!”

The pilot, fed up with their little competition, decided to say something.

“Guys, I could put this plane into the side of a mountain and make 365 million people very happy…”

WOW, Now this is scary

Would you like to be scared? Really? You would? Then read this…

Dollar SignSome excerpts:

  • $200 billion is the approximate total amount of write-downs announced so far as a result of the current credit crisis.
  • $14.1 trillion is the size of the entire U.S. economy
  • And $53 trillion is (drum roll please) the approximate size of this country’s bill for the Social Security and Medicare promises we’ve made.
  • According to the latest Social Security and Medicare Trustees report (and I use that term loosely since it has the word “trust” in it) released earlier this week, the economic asteroid will first make impact in the year 2019 when the Medicaid trust fund becomes insolvent. Only an immediate 122 percent increase in Medicaid taxes and a 26 percent increase in Social Security taxes can prevent (or more likely, delay) its impact.
  • I’m not counting on a penny from Social Security when I retire. I’m not worried, God’s got it under control, and I can keep plants alive, so I’ll just grow my own food when the whole economy crashes. 🙂

Of course I jest, but this is a serious issue. No Medicare or Social Security payouts in the future will leave a HUGE impact on many people, especially the poor who do not have their own investments to fall back on. Please do what you can to pay off debt and start investing NOW. I’m not all doom and gloom, but it won’t hurt to start thinking about the future now.
